We’re claiming bragging rights for now! Dubai is full of the
ostentatious and is opulent to the nth degree.
Went up the Burj Khalifa; the worlds’ tallest building. It also has the worlds’ fastest elevator travelling at 68 klms per hour.
Amazing views of Dubai from the viewing tower at floor 124.
This was our morning activity before returning to our hotel
for a nanna nap – we both need this these days.
In the evening we went to the Burj Al Arab for dinner. Called
the ‘Culinary Flight’ it was more an experience than dinner with a course in
each restaurant.
First it was cocktails in the Sky View Bar;
Followed by the first course at the Al Muntaha;
The next stopover took us to Al Iwan for a delectable second course;
Then onto Junsui to savour a sumptuous third course
Our next destination was the main restaurant; the Al Mahara
for the main course. The center piece of the restaurant is its’ central
aquarium from floor to ceiling giving the impression of dining under the sea.
Our final destination was at the Sahn Eddar restaurant for desert and brandy as we listened to the strains of a string quartet and a view of the immense lobby.
Each course was accompanied with sommelier selected wines, all
very high quality. It was champagne with the first course and brandy
with the final. The finishing touch was our ride back to our hotel (inclusive
in the price) by a white Rolls Royce Phantom.
The attention we received was divine but never pretentious. We
were guided to each location by a host/hostess from each restaurant. We were
then given time to just talk with the manager of the Sahn Eddar restaurant who,
though Indonesian had connections in Australia. She presented Julie with a red
rose and us with a souvenir book and CD of the Burg Al Arab. Needless to say we
are both still on cloud nine from this remarkable experience.
