Having a great time here in Rome; being tourists to the max.
It started to rain just as we arrived at the restaurant for food shortly after
our arrival. Not cold though so it really wasn’t a problem. Boy! Do those
Italians know how to make pasta and pizza!!!
Day one; we went on a river tour the get a general guide to
the city before we went looking around.
First stop was ‘The National Monument’. What an awesome
building, simply mind-blowing.
From there we went to the Trevi Fountain – naturally we threw
in our coins. A bit of a ‘soppy’ move but at least the cash collected goes into
a charity fund for the poor. And there is a lot of poverty here.
Day two was equally interesting with a guided tour of Vatican
City. Photos just don’t do justice to the immense beauty of the place. We’re
also extremely pleased we decided on the guided tour; I’d recommend it to
anyone. One just doesn’t know where to begin when touring this place.
Next stop; The Colosseum. One word – WOW! This is a place to
behold.
There was also an added advantage. The Italian divorce! Beats the heck out of lawyers and much quicker to boot.
There is one downside to our hotel. Evidently street
prostitution is legal and on one corner we pass on the way to our favourite
restaurant 3 or 4 of them stand around accosting passersby – male and female.
It makes little difference if you are a couple or not. And ugly; I mean “chew
your arm off” ugly’!
Tomorrow we have an early start - around 05-30 from the hotel for our day trip to Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. Will blog again tomorrow evening if not too knackered, (and of course providing she doesn't blow her top and us with it)! On Monday we sail via ferry from Civitavecchiato Barcelona so will try to blog from there!
