Took the Glacier Express from Zermatt to St Moritz on what is
claimed to be the ‘slowest express train in the world’.
This is one super incredible
journey. The views are awesome but unfortunately the photos we took are marred
by the train windows. To make matters worse (from a photography point of view)
it was also raining for part of the trip. So, the photos on this post are not
too good but should give a general ‘picture’ of the trip.
First few kilometres of the ride
Front
of our train
Absolutely stunning views
Sorry about the reflections but what a view
The trip took a total of eight and half hours but was in first
class so no hardship there. Also the windows are massive and run into the top
of the train giving a truly panoramic experience.
When we arrived in St Moritz it was Sunday and most places
were closed. First impression was ‘oops! We should have stayed in Zermatt’.
However, the hotel is top of the range and we got ourselves bumped up to a
junior suite for no extra charge.
Crappy sleeping area
Lounge/Sitting room
Marble bathroom
Added to this up-grade we get breakfast thrown in, a full 3 course dinner on an evening of our choice, free transport throughout the area (which includes the mountain railways) and the room mini-bar thrown in for good measure.

We received a crap e-mail this morning. The house has been broken
into and the car keys nicked and the Ute stolen. Luckily all our friends are
rallying round and helping, so we’re just saying ‘F*^# it! It’s not worth
wrecking our holiday over it. I've got a VERY strong idea of who is behind it and when we return the low life scum-bag will find himself suffocated with his own foreskin!
I’ve managed to persuade Julie to go up the mountain on the funicular
railway tomorrow so we can have a meal in the Eastern Alps’ highest restaurant.
This is situated at an altitude of some
3,303 m above sea level. Hopefully it will
be clear enough for photos and I’ll post a few pics on line.
