What a way to start the year! OK, I admit it; I woke with a
bit of a hangover following the previous nights’ excesses but that soon cleared
with a reasonable breakfast and a few litres of black coffee.
It was our last day in London (and UK and Europe) so we used
our time to walk around the city.
We had
a ‘High Tea’ booked at Claridges so headed out towards Bond Street for a view
of how the other half live!
There are plenty of high end shops around there for sure. It’s
a case of Recession? What recession?
At 3.00 pm we arrived at Claridges for our High Tea. This was
a very interesting experience and pure indulgence.
We were served unlimited finger sandwiches, (crusts removed, of course).
I had a glass of champagne and luxury tea whilst Julie declined the champers.
This was followed by scones, jam and clotted cream. The next course was a
selection of 4 deserts and finished off with Christmas cake. No wonder we have
gained all the weight we lost prior to starting this holiday!
At the end of the day we were given a souvenir ‘Christmas Tree
ornament’ containing a small speciality tea! Awwwww! Ain’t that nice!
Stuffed, we left the hotel to return to the Ruben and to get
ready for our final evening dinner.
Julies’ son and daughter-in-law were
driving to London from Hythe to spend the evening with us for dinner.
We had booked us all into the Library Restaurant at the Ruben
for this final meal.
It was great seeing them again, especially as we were flying
out to Los Angeles the following day. I’m impressed with Shane for driving into
central London; not something I would want to do.
So, it’s off to the USA tomorrow and the continuation of our
trip.
